Post-Mortem
There’s not much to add, is there?
There are facts:
The party that flew the desecrated flags, the kind that replaced the red, white, and blue with just red, the kind that displayed crude images and foul language on the flag itself, won in a landslide.
The party that drove their F-150’s with F**k Biden banners unfurled, drivers staring out with clenched fists and grins, won in a landslide.
The party of a felon and sexual predator, won in a landslide.
The party of revenge and vitriol … won in a landslide.
There are the inevitable recriminations:
Democrats from the Senate and Congress now saying “of course we lost. We abandoned the working class.”
“Oh, but the price of bacon.”
“Pronouns Matter.”
“But we didn’t actually mean ‘eliminate the police’”
Then there are the scholars and historians. Not the so-called Ivy elitists who pontificate, but the ones without agenda or bias, the ones who are most concerned about the future, both near and far off, about the rule of law. Because without the rule of law, autocracy, corruption, impunity, discrimination, and many other societal ills can, and will, go unchecked and unpunished. It’s unfolding as we speak.
The GOP leadership is now saying that background checks on Cabinet appointments are not necessary. Venezuela, Hungary, North Korea, Russia … they don’t bother with that sort of rubbish, so why should we? The 14th Amendment? Phooey.
America’s overall economy is the envy of the rest of the world, but not in the U.S. According to the voters, it’s in the toilet.
The disequilibrium of wealth has never been greater. Indeed, the U.S. gap is the most lopsided, the most unfair, on the planet. According to the voters, billionaires have every right to call the shots. Tuah.
When a jury of one’s peers unanimously agree on a verdict, that’s the verdict. But not in the U.S.
Three Supreme Court nominees said, under oath, they would honor precedent and not reconsider ‘settled law.’ Roe, so said Kavanaugh, was “precedent on precedent.” Except now committing perjury is not only acceptable, it’s required if they’re told to please a small, but foaming-at-the-mouth, minority. The two-thirds of all Americans who oppose? Too bad. Tsk-Tsk.
Sure, there are the handful of fake electors who now say they were tricked into signing phony documents in 2020, but they’re resting comfortably in the dust bin now.
So … Democrats turn to Alexander Pope:
